Addictions

Fortunately for me, Starbucks is NOT one of my addictions, but if it were I imagine my perspective to be the following:

Day 5 of 365

I feel like there is nothing new to share today so I'm going to leave you with this funny quote:
"Warning: condoms aren't 100% protective. My friend was wearing one and they fell down the stairs."

Day 3 of 365

Hey everyone, day 3 now!  So I dropped by Paul Buceta's studio real quick to transfer some footage from Friday's shoot to his computer, and we ended up getting a litttttle carried away.

George from Kreater bikes came in to see Paul and they started talking fitness and about fighting.  Paul had some secret fighting techniques... man I wish I filmed the "crazy face", but I did manage to get footage of his other technique.  See link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UGcs7-omgw

Actually, come to think of it, crazy face sort of looks like the picture below!

Paul as a Mexican Wrestler.
Kids, don't fight in studios!

Day 2 of 365

Day 2,

I went to the iModel Expo Saturday and I just got around to uploading the pictures on to my computer.  I've been too busy trying to figure out a way to back up the footage from the Playboy video shoot and it's just too stressful to use an HDV camera as opposed to the new digital formats such as flash cards...

The other thing I have been trying to figure out are my funds for a new Macbook Pro + buying some studio couches + tethering my camera to my laptop (which is currently too slow, hence the desire for a Macbook Pro).

Here are some pictures from the iModel Expo.  Each tells a fun story:

Marissa Elyse being interviewed.  She's been to Playboy parties, she's cool!

Ashley Gabriel stealing posters from booths.

Jennifer Nguyen, aka JENNY pretending to eat something sour.  I know she hates "Jenny".

Random girl taking off her clothes.  Ok, if you know me you should know who this is without question.

Michelle Reina, a total cutie!  I want to shoot her for some online magazines now.

These guys have never seen a girl in their lives before!

Dia signing a shirt, yepp. Signing a shirt :)

Kimberly and Dia, two other total cuties, but most importantly sweethearts!  Super nice girls.

They can't resist each other.

Day 1 of 365

Yesterday I shot video on spec for Playboy Special Editions with champ photographer Paul Buceta.  Super nice guy, well-spirited, and talented.

The call time was 9am, and I got out of the studio by 11pm.  14 hours later I came home, crashed, and woke up at noon; it's not something I'm used to.  Either way, I liked the idea behind the new experience and the idea of potentially adding Playboy to my clientèle list.

Yesterday's experience (shooting for Playboy, a big brand) inspired me to be transparent and to start sharing my photographic journey with the world, online.  Everyday I will be posting video or images along with a story about how I'm doing on the journey.  Through his, I hope to further inspire everyone to work towards what they want to do as well.  The idea behind a 365 day thing was inspired by Sanjay Bhatti.

The day prior to that was September 30th, when I shot Playboy model Ashley Marie along with local Toronto-based musician Chris Ramos.  You can find the issue Lingerie Edition Ashley appears in on shelves for October/November, while you can hear Chris' song just by listening to Z1035; it's airing daily.  Here are some fun behind the scenes pictures from the shoot:

and that was my day!

Support the cause?

Background Story:  My mother has 3 empty frames in the kitchen that she has been dying to fill with pictures!  Naturally, I didn't want her to go out and buy another artist's work so I stepped up to the plate and volunteered my services (yes, my mom gets my work for free!).  Moving on, Chrissy and I were out and about, looking for unique patterns to photograph with my (still new, since I've only used it 4 or 5 times) 70-200mm Sigma F2.8 EXII lens.

Walking on Queen St. by Nathan Phillips Square, we saw this man whose facial expression, from afar went unnoticed.  Chrissy and I thought the grammatical mistake on his sign was humorous and that I should snap a picture for my blog, so I did.

The Point: After taking a real look at this picture, I just can NOT make fun of this guy.  The guy looks miserable, and his expression is so genuine that I support the guy and am hoping to share this image with the world.  Here's to helping people do better things!

Fuck You!

LOLLLLL!!!

i'm a universal type of person. i can talk with anyone, and have something in common with ANYONE. you will not be bored of me. and if you do, then fuck you.

Yeah, I'm not the one who wrote that. I was browsing through some social media sites looking at someone's "info" section and then BAMMM.

It starts off positive (a little cocky, but hey!), and then progressively gets cockier (hey no problem, it's all good), and then the bitch-bomb drops "if you do, fuck you". There's no better way to reveal your insecurities than to turn something that could have been positive, into something negative. Negative thoughts mean insecurity, means you're not a very fun person to be around, period.

Just my $0.02!

It's been too long

I feel like it has been too long since I last posted.

Once I get my NEW website up and running, I'll be posting all my blogs there. Thanks to Mark Wissa for designing it for me.

Meanwhile, HELICOPTER! Click the picture to watch the video.

Caution: Creepers!

Ok, so ANYONE who truly knows me knows I can't take anything seriously, which includes photo shoots.

If you're not having a good time, you're better off not doing it; here are a few shots that live up to that statement.

(GWC = [creepy] Guy With Camera; Essentially the guy who got a camera so he could get girls naked, but is lacking any credible talent)

I guess this is what happens when you pretend to be that guy who wants a hug from the model and "just wants to watch" the shoot, meanwhile all he does is snap pics of their private areas.

Megan Fox & Latinas!

Just recently I was called upon to shoot some work for the 2011 Toronto Latina / International Swimsuit Calendar.

Went down with Maurizio the super cool I-talian! He helped hold all my equipment and set it up, phew! Without him I would have probably taken twice as long to take my pics!

So then we found a cool cup-holding... errr, beer-holding rock!

Afterwards we took a few behind the sceners of people and their silly faces!

Then, ran into Megan Fox:

and finally, we got interviewed by What'sGoodToronto.com

Cool video, worth a check-out!

Hey everyone, it's Daniel!

So a few months ago I was filming an Edward Maya (think Stereo Love) event and shooting behind the scenes for the gig, when I was approached by, at the time, a totally random stranger!

Little did I know that stranger would turn out to be a totally cool guy and now good friend, Mr. Chris Ramos. You may have heard his song Celebration aired on Z1035 and also on the Z103 Hitmix CD!

Anyways, so he kept asking me if I got any footage of him at the club, to which I stated I might have. Took a scan through the raw clips and got one 5 second clip with awful quality.

He wanted to make a little promo video so he told me to send it over and he'd see what he could do with it, to which I responded: "Chris, I won't have that. I would rather take a day out of my schedule and get you some proper footage than to have crappy footage laying around."

So at sunset one day, we head up to a rooftop in my area (tallest building for miles and miles),

and shot 2 minutes worth of footage in hopes that it would look like sunrise (pfft... who really keeps track of where the sun rises and sets?).

Then, 5 hours worth of editing with only 2 minutes of footage, we ended up with this!

The takeaway here? Always be willing to help out your fellow man or, wo-man! Sometimes that could spark great friendships and add a beautiful piece to your portfolio.

My new office; the beach!

This Friday the 13th was my lucky day, well... not really but it was still a great day!

I went to the beach with Chrissy Venus (the ever-talented model/girlfriend) and Maurizio F. (the ever-talented photographer)!

We hit up the beach nice and early... at least on my clock: 1pm.
1-5 we drink beers, relax, and play with our lenses, and... take pictures of super awesome sandcastles built by grownups?

and what fun would it be if we didn't snap a few Paparazzo shots as well?

Come 5pm, as me and Chrissy head towards a restaurant for her to do her makeup and for me to grab some much-needed ice cream we meet a few dudes with a boat and they ask us if we'd like to pose Chrissy on the boat!

We tell them that once we're back, we'll try to incorporate that into our shoot, but once we return they are nowhere to be found!

Then this guy shows up and we ask him to shoot on his jet-ski!

He says yes.

We shoot a few more shots on the beach before relocating.

Sunset hits, and we head towards the rocks.

Maurizio tries to out-sex Chrissy, and almost succeeds!

...and finally, here is what was the shot of shots that day... err night!

After we finally finished shooting, we hit up the 5 drive in, got some cheeseburgers without toppings (Chrissy's cheesburger didn't even have cheese on it! WTF!), and watched The Expendables.
